Ondo State To Host BON 2015 In December.

This year, the Best of Nollywood Awards holds December 12th in Akure, Ondo State. The governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, made this announcement Thursday morning at a meeting with the organisers of BON and select Nollywood stars inside his stately country home in Ondo town, Ondo State.

He said “On behalf of the good people of Ondo State and me, we are set to host the Best of Nollywood Awards this year. We will give spirit and soul to the awards ceremony because it would be held in the best and only international events centre in Nigeria. Our new Dome would make the Expo Centre in Lagos look like a village kitchen,” he boasted.

Adducing reasons for consenting to host BON Awards, Governor Mimiko said, “My first reaction when the executive producer mentioned hosting BON Awards to me was that these are not the best of times for any state financially but he assured me that it would not cost the state so much. And I agreed essentially because growing up, we were all victims of cultural imperialism by the West. Of course, at that time, we still had contending views of the East because of the deep rooted culture in their (Indian and Chinese) films.”

As time went by however, he said the Nigerian film began to show great promises.
Though a successful medical doctor before political adventurism took over, Dr Mimiko’s robust knowledge of the global film industry was not in doubt; which was why he said if there is one area Nigeria has shown the world that she is capable of excelling especially in the last two decades, it is in the creative industry especially the film industry. “So, for me, the celebration of Nollywood is within the context of the cultural, if you like, imperialistic possibilities of Nigeria and why not? So long we talk about our potentials; we could also make Nigerian films a global commodity.

If we want to be a dominant country in Africa and a global player, we need to deliberately create our Nollywood narrative by creating a theme around which other sub-themes would be created to sell our country,” he posited.
This is because, he continued, “Even in Hollywood, there is a constant narrative, whether subtle or otherwise, in all their cinematic outputs. We have to discover our own narrative. It is amazing the possibilities therein.

There is no home in Africa where Nollywood is not celebrated and I think this creates finite possibilities for us to recreate and identify ourselves before the world. For us, celebrating Nollywood stars is part of our patriotic drive to ensure that this industry actually helps to actualize the Nigerian dream. I don’t think there is any nation that has a product and does not package how to sell it.”

The executive producer, Seun Oloketuyi, thanked the governor for his understanding, love and support for the entertainment industry, and importantly, for agreeing to host the event. Oloketuyi further expressed his appreciation to Governor Mimiko. While urging other governors to take a cue from Governor Mimiko and help the industry grow, Oloketuyi presented him a certificate to symbolize the hosting right.

Present at the event were Nollywood stars like Segun Arinze, Yomi Fash Lanso, Fathia Balogun, Ngozi Nwosu, Alex Ekubo, Ebube Nwagbo, Toyosi Adesanya and Amanda Ebeye among others.

Buhari - ''No Country Can Succeed In The War Against Terror Alone''

President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to protect the territorial integrity of the Nigerian nation and stressed the need for collective efforts in the fight against terror.

‎The President, who made the remarks late on Wednesday during a state dinner at the Unity Palace in Yaounde during his two-day working visit to Cameroon, however, stated that Nigeria was going to team up with Cameroon in the fight against Boko Haram.
He said: “We recognize that none of us can succeed alone. In order to win this war, we need the collective efforts of each one of us, standing together as a formidable force for good, to defeat and end these acts of terror against our people.
“Let me assure all of my relentless pursuit of all possible means to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity, protect the lives and property of our citizens as well as my commitment to continue to collaborate with Cameroon and our neighbours, within the framework of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria is committed to respecting international norms to resolve this matter and to restore normalcy to all the affected areas as soon as possible.”

EU Bans Food Exports From Nigeria

The European Union has banned some food exports from Nigeria. Among the food items banned includes beans, sesame seeds, melon seeds, dried fish and meat, peanut chips and palm oil.

A statement from the European Food Safety Authority says the food substances were banned because they contained ‘a high level of unauthorized pesticide.’

Nigerian beans was banned because it contained between 0.03mg per kg to 4.6mg/kg of dichlorvos pesticide when the acceptable maximum residue limit is 0.01mg/kg. The ban on the food substances will expire in 2016.

Big Brother 2015 Cancelled!

Big brother Africa. Africa’s biggest reality TV show has been cancelled!

The organizers, Africa Magic and Endemol were ALLEGEDLY unable to get sponsorship for this year’s edition of the controversial show.

The Manager of Multichoice Ghana, Anne Sackey confirmed on Sunday that they at Multichoice Ghana had received notice from MNET that this year’s edition of Big Brother Africa would not hold.

She explained that MNET did not give them any reasons as why they would not be holding the Big Brother this year, but then, “she personally thinks it’s due to sponsorship constraints”.

Bobbi Kristina's boyfriend Nick Gordon on suicide watch

Now that Bobbi Kristina Brown has passed away, her longtime boyfriend and rumored husband, Nick Gordon, is inconsolable. It's been reported that he’s “out of control” and those closest to him fear he’ll take his own life.

“Nick is on suicide watch. He is out of control with regret and sadness. He keeps saying that if only Bobbi Kristina had heard his voice, things would have been different. She may have lived,” a source said.
Nick, who was recently served with a $10 million lawsuit by Bobbi Kristina Brown’s conservators is inconsolable over the death of the 22-year-old daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown.

Bobbi Kristina Brown dies

Bobbi Kristina Brown has died aged 22 - six months after she was found unconscious in a bathtub.

The aspiring singer was rushed to hospital and placed in a medically-induced coma on January 31 after she was discovered face-down in the water-filled tub at her townhouse in Roswell, Georgia.
She passed away, surrounded by her family, at the hospice on Sunday - just 3 years after her famous mother, singer Whitney Houston, died aged 48 in a bathtub at a hotel in Beverly Hills.

Officials are planning to treat the death of Bobbi Kristina, who was found in the tub with bruises on her face and body, swollen lips and a missing tooth, as a murder investigation.

The person of interest in the case will reportedly be her boyfriend, Nick Gordon.

The Houston family said on Sunday night that Bobbi Kristina 'is finally at peace in the arms of God.'

In a statement via a representative, they said: 'Bobbi Kristina Brown passed away July, 26 2015, surrounded by her family. She is finally at peace in the arms of God. We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months.'

May her soul rest in peace...Amen!
